vCloud Director 5.1 Installation Step 12 – Create a Provider VDC

This is one of the important parts because we are going to define some levels about our service that are provided to customers such as Gold, Silver, Bronze.

Before going further, you must define what kind of service you will provide. I will try to explain little bit.

Gold for me means, best CPU, best memory and FC SAN storage

Silver can be mixed storage tier.

Bronze should be lowest CPU and memory and SATA disks. All you have to do is to define what service you have.

vCloud Director 5.1 Installation Step 11 – Attach a vCenter

We have finished all initial steps required to log in to vCloud Manager and we are about to configure vCloud itself.

We have to complete some steps in order and the first step is establish the connection between vCloud and vCenter.

Connect vCloud web Page and click on “Attach a vCenter”

vCloud Director 5.1 Installation Step 10 – vCloud Director configuration

We can finish initial configuration of vCloud Director now.

Open IE or Firefox (other browsers are not supported by vCloud) and connect to vCloud Director again

Next the page and accept the agreement and then type the license you are given and now you need a password of vCloud administrator. At least 6 characters and must be complex and enter your personal details

vCloud Director 5.1 Installation Step 9 – Pre-Configuration -3 for vCloud Director configuration

Vshield Manager has been installed and I added to memory as well. We can start the server.

Default username and password of this server are

Username:admin

Password: default

If you are in and if you don’t have any warning messages, you will see “Manager>”

In order to configure the server type “enable” and password is again default

vCloud Director 5.1 Installation Step 8 – Pre-Configuration -2 for vCloud Director configuration

Installating vShield manager/ VCNS is our second pre configuration step. In order to install it, you should have downloaded OVA file from vmware.com. If not, you can download it now to your computer.

Open your vSphere Client and go to Open and then to Deploy OVF template. After that, browse your file from your computer

vCloud Director 5.1 Installation Step 7 – Pre-Configuration -1 for vCloud Director configuration

I understand you saying Sonat how many articles we should read and execute to configure vCloud Director. I really know but this is the reality we can’t avoid easily. Actually before using vCloud Director functional, we have a long way head of us and all I can say is that patience is a virtue.

Three things we have to do before turning to Web page. First one is not recommended but we should do it because each VM must have it which is Vmtool. It is not easy if you are not familiar with Linux too much.

vCloud Director 5.1 Installation Step 6 – vCloud Installation

All requirements, Red Hat server, certificates, installation files, IP addresses, DNS records, are ready. Now we can install the application now.

Connect your Red Hat server which vCloud Director will be installed onto and go to preptools folder where all installation files are

vCloud Director 5.1 Installation Step 5 – How to copy vCloud Director bin file to the Server

There are many ways you can use to copy files to Red Hat server. I will show you my way and I always prefer easy ways.

Download Winscp file transfer software which is free.

http://winscp.net/eng/download.php

After downloading, install it to your computer.

When you open it, choose SCP file protocol and type username and password and click on Login button.
